You’re right, this forage is hay. And (at least here in Normandy) it is a good practice to rake it into windrows not only before storing but also each evening so that it doesn’t get too wet with dew during the night.

Forage? Or Hay? Hay is raked up into ‘windrows’ to dry before being stored in the barn.
